2010 Academic Retreat for Teachers

The Institute is very proud of its Academic Retreat for Teachers. This year’s Retreat will be held at Holy Cross College, across the street from the University of Notre Dame. We will study:

  • The principles and history of Catholic education
  • Catholic approaches to language arts, history, math and science
  • Religious education
  • Secular contrasts with Catholic education

The following testimonials are taken from last year’s participants. We believe they speak for themselves. Join us by registering online.

"The week has made me think--the kind of thinking that students should be doing."

"I thoroughly enjoyed this retreat. It was a refreshing combination of challenging academics and spirituality. I learned more in five days than I would learn in five semesters at many universities. The retreat, in a healthy way, revealed how much I missed in primary, secondary, and university education. I can directly implement the content matter we studied and practice the methods we used to study it. If schools really believe in the engagement they espouse, they should all use the readings and techniques we experienced this week."

"The retreat provided me with an opportunity to think without distractions. It was an opportunity to reflect and exchange insights. I have benefited in that my brain is awake and I am energized to step back into the classroom. The energy from the retreat will trickle down through the school."

"This retreat fosters dialogue with the great thinkers of the Western tradition, as well as great conversation with very talented, dedicated educators. The networking opportunities with retreatants beyond the sessions are as valuable as the enriching classroom discussions themselves."

"I loved the retreat! It was a good mix of intellectual/spiritual growth and practical sharing….I loved the discussion of the Gettysburg Address. I will use this with students at school. I also enjoyed the discussion of "The Restoring of the Catholic Historical Imagination." It helped me articulate [a] feeling/intuition I have had for several years."

"Thank you for a stimulating and inspiring week!!"
